Environmental protection during recovery
Marine salvage often involves more than simply raising or refloating a vessel. A sunken, damaged, or partially submerged boat may contain fuel, oil, batteries, debris, and other materials that can enter the surrounding water during recovery.
Environmental conditions are considered throughout the salvage process. Depending on the vessel and location, containment boom, absorbent materials, pumps, debris barriers, and other appropriate equipment may be used to help contain pollutants and debris while the vessel is stabilized, dewatered, raised, or removed.
When fuel, oil, or other hazardous materials must be removed from a vessel, they are transferred and secured in appropriate containers for proper handling and disposal. Maverick Marine Services has HAZWOPER-trained personnel experienced in marine salvage operations where environmental containment and the safe handling of potentially hazardous materials are an important part of the job.

Once a vessel fire has been extinguished and the scene is safe for recovery operations, the damage left behind can present additional challenges. Fire-damaged vessels may be partially submerged or sunk, structurally compromised, and surrounded by burned material, debris, fuel, oil, or contaminated water.
Maverick Marine Services can assist with the cleanup, stabilization, recovery, removal, and disposal of fire-damaged vessels, along with environmental containment when needed. Because fire can weaken the hull, deck, and normal lifting points, each vessel is evaluated to determine an appropriate recovery and removal approach.
