About Us
More Than A Business
A Family. A Passion. A Life On The Water.
Before there was
marine salvage, there
was maverick fishing charters.
Erich grew up in Scituate, Rhode Island. From the time he was little, he and his younger brother would run off for the day to fish
the reservoir—the state’s drinking-water supply—which was very much off-limits to two little boys with fishing poles. They continued this throughout their childhood, and those days remain some of
his fondest memories growing up.
When Erich moved to Florida as an adult, his dream of becoming
a boat captain and running his own charter boat finally became a reality. In 2010, with the help of a friend who would become his business partner, Maverick Fishing Charters was born.
A New Chapter
The Iowa Girl and
the boat captain
And very shortly after that, I showed up. Abby the Iowa girl who fell in love with the boat captain. I grew up along the Mississippi River, so boats and fishing weren’t exactly foreign to me—but life on the Gulf was a whole different world. Over the years, I’ve learned more about boats, fishing, and life on the water than I ever imagined I’d know.
What started as Erich’s dream became something we built together for our growing family. We welcomed our son Jack into the world in 2013, and in 2016, another boy, Henry, completed our crew.
People ask us all the time how we manage working together. And it’s really quite simple. I’m the boss and Erich agrees. In all seriousness though, our strengths complement each other, and we’ve always shared that same drive to build something to be proud of.
experienced earned on the water
hands-on and resourceful
When you own and operate boats for a living, you learn that things break. Constantly. This Iowa girl was under the illusion that when you fix something, it was supposed to stay fixed. Apparently the boats didn’t get that memo.
Over the years, I’ve watched Erich fix, rebuild, improvise, and figure things out—sometimes miles offshore with whatever he had available. And sometimes, it wasn’t our boat that needed fixing. This was years before marine salvage ever became part of our lives. On one occasion, a distress call came over the VHF from a family whose boat was taking on water offshore. Erich went to help and ended up converting their live-well pump to pump water out of the boat, helping keep them afloat.
At the time, it wasn’t marine salvage to us. It was just figuring out a problem in the moment and helping another boater get home. But looking back, there were a lot of moments like that along the way—and eventually, figuring out problems on the water became our business.
We didn’t know it then, but experiences like those were preparing us for what would eventually become Maverick Marine Services.
family. hard work. integrity.
The maverick name
is here to stay
In 2021, we sold our charter boat and shortly thereafter, Maverick Marine Services was born.
Since then, marine salvage has taken us places we never could have imagined. We’ve raised sunken boats, refloated vessels, handled complex recoveries, removed derelict boats, demolished vessels that couldn’t be saved, and responded in the aftermath of Hurricanes Ian, Helene, and Milton. Every job has been different, and every one has added something to the experience we carry into the next.
And none of these accomplishments would have been possible without our amazing crew. They are family to us, and we wouldn’t be where we are today without them. They’ve shown up, put in long hours beside us, and spent time away from their own families to help us get the job done.
That’s what we do. We figure it out, and we get the job done.
Maverick started as the name of a fishing charter, but somewhere along the way, it became part of our family. We carried it with us into Maverick Marine Services because after all those years, we couldn’t imagine calling it anything else.
Today, the Maverick name represents more than our business. It represents our family, our crew, our reputation, and years of hard work, honesty, and doing business the right way. We’re proud of what we’ve built, proud of the people who have helped us build it, and excited to see where the next chapter takes us.
Thank you to those who have supported us from the very beginning. You know who you are.
We are incredibly grateful.
