How Do Impounds Work?

After we receive a signed contract, and signs are visibly posted on your property, you call us when you need us. You will need to provide us with full description of the vessel you report:

  • Name of Vessel (homeport)
  • VIN or registration # (example: FL 1234 AB)

After we check our DMV / US Coast Guard data-base, we will schedule the impound/tow date and time. Please keep in mind that weather and tides may effect scheduling.

At the time of the impound, we are required by law to make a police report / tow ticket. A towing and storage lien applies. The vessel owner will be notify by certified mail and by local newspaper legal ad. Vessel will be sold at public auction if it’s not released by the owner. A police impounded vessel has to be released by the local law enforcement, police department, or Sheriff’s office.

“A non-consent tow is defined as the recovery, tow, removal or storage of a vessel without the authorization
of the owner.”.

No, all documented vessels must comply with the laws of the state in which they are operated. The vessel’s document must be shown to state law enforcement personnel upon their demand. States may require documented vessels to be registered (but not numbered) and to display state decals showing that they have complied with state requirements.
